A show airing on broadcast scored TV’s highest-rated summer series premiere in two years in the key demo of viewers 18-49. ABC announced that “Celebrity Family Feud” bowed Sunday with 8.5 million total viewers and a 2.4 average rating in 18-49.

“In Adults 18-49, ‘Celebrity Family Feud’ opened as TV’s top summer series debut in 2 years (since CBS’s ‘Under the Dome’ on 6/24/13) and equaled the highest unscripted summer debut in 4 years (since NBC’s ‘The Voice Results Show’ on 6/22/11),” ABC announced.

The achievement came even as the show aired against Fox’s strong coverage of the U.S. Open golf championship.

Leading out from “Feud” at 9 p.m., ABC’s new “BattleBots” delivered 5.4 million total viewers and a 1.9 average in 18-49 to rank as the night’s No. 2 show behind “Feud,” ABC noted.
