NBC Shakes Things Up on Comedy Side

In what’s being called a shakeup in the executive ranks of the NBC comedy programming department, Variety reports that Bela Bajaria received a promotion to president of Universal Television while the studio’s head of comedy, Tracey Pakosta, moves over to NBC as executive VP of comedy programming.

“Vernon Sanders moves out of overseeing comedy development at NBC back to his previous role as head of the network’s current programming, after a year as exec VP overseeing NBC’s comedy development and current series,” the story reports.

Variety adds: “The shuffle in comedy amounts to a reversal of the structure put in place last spring when Sanders and Pearlina Igbokwe were tapped to head comedy and drama programming, respectively. With Sanders’ move into comedy development last year, NBC opted to have its exec VPs oversee both development and current programming in their respective domains.”

Igbokwe will now reportedly focus on development.

  1. NBC has a head of comedy? You certainly wouldn’t know it by their lack of programming in the genre… and also for their inexplicable diss of “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.”

  2. I cannot laughing at this announcement.
