Oscar-Nominated Actor Reveals Cancer Diagnosis

A well-known actor who is a two-time Oscar nominee and a Golden Globe winner has disclosed that he was diagnosed with cancer. The AP reports that John Hurt said today he was recently diagnosed with early-stage pancreatic cancer.

Hurt, 75, is known for roles including John Merrick in “The Elephant Man” and Max in “Midnight Express,” earning Academy Award nominations for both performances. He also won a Golden Globe for “Midnight Express.”

“He says he is undergoing treatment and is ‘more than optimistic about a satisfactory outcome, as indeed is the medical team,'” the AP reports.
