A well-known rapper is in hot water with Internet users over an Instagram post calling Bruce Jenner a “science project.”
The New York Daily News reports that Snoop Dogg shared a meme intended to shine a light on humanitarian work in Africa by his friend Akon, but much of the reaction focused on his reference to Jenner.
Snoop posted a photo of Akon along with the caption: “Shout out to Akon! He is about to supply 600 million africans with solar power. I’m really upset that this isn’t major news but that science project bruce jenner is #Society.”
NBA player J.R. Smith of the Cleveland Cavaliers also got involved, sharing the post from Snoop on his Instagram page for a brief period before removing it. Smith and the Cavs begin the NBA Finals tonight against the Golden State Warriors.
Comments critical of Snoop’s post have been pouring in. Among the examples cited in the story:
One user referenced Snoop Dogg’s name change to Snoop Lion a while back, writing: “How long were you in the news for a stupid f–king name change? But when someone else changes up their identity suddenly its not worth it. Not buying another song of yours EVER.”
A Twitter user wrote: “Real bummed that @SnoopDogg is shading @Caitlyn_Jenner on IG. Thought him of all people would be open minded and accepting.”
