Stephen Colbert has announced who will be his bandleader when he takes over CBS’s “Late Show” in September. USA Today reports that Colbert was in New Orleans — part of what the report calls his “charm offensive” — when he introduced Jon Batiste as the new bandleader.
Batiste, a singer, piano virtuoso and multi-instrumentalist, is in the band Stay Human, and has collaborated with Wynton Marsalis, Lenny Kravitz and Prince, the report notes. He replaces longtime David Letterman sideman Paul Shaffer.
Batiste, part of a musical family, hails from Kenner, La.
