The broadcast TV network with the strongest lineup of programs for the fall season is the same one that just won its second consecutive May sweeps period, based on the annual Media Life readers survey.

The publication reports that its readers picked ABC by a wide margin. Media Life indicates that its readership consists largely of media buyers and planners.

“Asked which network has the strongest schedule, nearly half, 46 percent, picked ABC,” the story reports. “That was well ahead of the No. 2 finisher, CBS, at 26 percent.

“The CW was a distant third at 12 percent, getting a higher percentage of the vote than it ever has in this annual Media Life poll.”

ABC’s “All Shonda Rhimes” Thursday night lineup was a plus for readers, along with the network’s relative stability, with only a few time slots undergoing changes.

The new ABC programs also received a thumb’s-up, with readers picking “The Muppets” as the most promising new show for fall.

At the other end of the spectrum, 54 percent of readers said NBC has the weakest fall lineup — even though NBC, behind the ratings juggernaut “Sunday Night Football,” has won the past two seasons in the key 18-49 demo.

Fox came in second in the “least promising” vote with 28 percent, followed by CBS with 7 percent.
