Thursday night’s debate among the top GOP presidential contenders was a ratings smash, according to early numbers. Citing Nielsen overnight ratings, the Daily Caller reports that 16% of households that had the TV on were tuned in to Fox News for the telecast.
“Overnight estimates can be adjusted as the calculations are completed by Nielsen, but preliminary reports indicate 10 million Americans watched,” the story reports. “In contrast, the first GOP debate in 2011 only drew an audience of 3.2 million.”
The report adds that the turnout of 10 million doubled the previous record.
