“Rosie O’Donnell’s public plea for help Tuesday in finding her missing and mentally ill daughter ended in sweet relief hours later when the teen was found safe and sound on the Jersey shore,” reports the New York Daily News.
The story adds that O’Donnell tweeted “chelsea has been found and is safe in police custody. thank u all for the help and light #missingchildren”.
Actress and TV personality Rosie O’Donnell says her daughter is missing. Reuters reports that the 17-year-old is missing from her home in suburban New York, according to a post by O’Donnell today on her website.
O’Donnell says Chelsea O’Donnell was last seen Aug. 11, and is reportedly at the center of a custody dispute.
“The teen, who left home with her therapy dog, a tiny brown and black terrier, stopped taking her medication and needs medical attention, O’Donnell said,” the story reports.
A spokeswoman for O’Donnell told the media: “Chelsea, like millions of people, lives with mental illness. It has been a difficult road for Chelsea and her family and they just want her back safe.”
Reuters adds: “Local police have been looking for the teen in Rockland County, about 20 miles north of Manhattan, since Sunday, according to her mother, a former co-host of ABC’s ‘The View.'”
A police department spokesman in South Nyack, N.Y., said authorities were following up on the report but had not listed Chelsea officially as missing.
Reuters adds: “Rosie O’Donnell, who is currently appearing in the ABC Family television series ‘The Fosters,’ adopted the girl after allegations that her biological mother signed away the child while under the influence of drugs, and the two have been fighting over her custody, according to a report in The Daily Beast.”
