ABC News Makes Embarrassing Flub in Promo for the Network’s ‘Quantico’

ABC News is being accused by some observers of racial insensitivity after botching an attempt on “Nightline” to promote the network’s new drama series “Quantico.” USA Today reports that the program attempted to promote “Quantico” with a clip of Indian actress Priyanka Chopra, one of the show’s stars.

Chopra, who won the Miss World pageant in 2000, is reportedly the first South Asian to topline a U.S. network drama series.

“Except the woman in the clip wasn’t actually Chopra — it was Yukta Mookhey, another Indian actress and former Miss World,” USA Today reports. Mookhey won Miss World the year before Chopra, in 1999.

Social media users were quick to mock ABC’s mistake. But Chopra, who has spoken out about transcending stereotypes by tackling the “Quantico” role, laughed it off, sending out an “lol” tweet.
