“PBS and CBS led the winners at the 36th annual News and Documentary Awards, held Monday night at Lincoln Center’s David Geffen Hall,” reports Variety, adding, “But lifetime achievement honoree Ted Turner stole the show with an emotional acceptance speech that recounted his ‘firing’ in 2001 from the company he founded.”

Variety notes that “PBS’ haul of 17 wins included six wins for ‘Frontline,’ for breaking news and investigative coverage. CBS’ nine wins included six for ‘60 Minutes.’”
