One TV series stood tall at Saturday’s Creative Arts Emmys, assuming the role of front-runner for the upcoming Primetime Emmy Awards.

The HBO fantasy series “Game of Thrones” hauled in eight Emmys at the warmup to the Sept. 20 main event. The 67th Annual Primetime Creative Arts Emmys were handed out Saturday night at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.

The Creative Arts Emmys ceremony will air Sept. 19 on FXX. The Creative Arts Emmys recognize achievement in a wide range of categories including creative, technical and visual arts. Guest-acting roles are also honored, along with Outstanding TV Movie and honors for reality programs, children’s shows, animation and other categories.

Along with “Game of Thrones,” other programs bringing in the hardware included FX’s “American Horror Story: Freak Show” with five trophies and Amazon’s “Transparent” with three.
