The new love interest on CBS’s “The Good Wife” comes with a long string of TV credits, including “Ugly Betty,” “Desperate Housewives” and “The Mindy Project.” E! Online reports that Vanessa Williams is joining the show on a recurring basis.
“Williams will play Courtney Boalt, described as ‘an extremely successful, self-made businesswoman who is potentially interested in backing Peter Florrick’s campaign for president.’ While exploring Peter’s campaign, she meets Eli Gold and there’s a mutual attraction. She debuts in November,” the story reports.
Gold is played by Alan Cumming.
In a statement, executive producers Robert and Michelle King said: “There are very few names you can put side-by-side that make you laugh. Alan Cumming and Vanessa Williams are at the top of that list. We couldn’t be more excited.”
Why do they cast an obviously gay man as a straight man? It’s so obvious He’s gay. He cannot hide his gayness.
I have to admit that I have been thinking almost the same thing.
But I have no problem with anyone being cast as anyone else, as long as they can play the part.
Unfortunately, unless the Eli Gold character is intended to be a closeted gay with stereotypical mannerisms, Alan Cumming has be seriously miscast.
@commenters, except he’s not gay. he’s bisexual. so…
