Kimmel Mocks Trump Over Canceled Appearance

ABC late-night host Jimmy Kimmel poked fun at Donald Trump after Trump canceled an appearance on Tuesday’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”

Variety reports that Kimmel appeared Tuesday on Howard Stern’s radio show, telling Stern: “Donald Trump canceled on us last night.” Kimmel noted that the reason for the cancellation was “unclear,” adding: “I don’t know what happened. We’re delighted, needless to say.”

The Trump camp indicated that the appearance conflicted with a political event.

“Though Trump was scheduled to appear, he was never set for a full sit-down guest interview,” Variety notes. “Rather, he was just supposed to take part in an on-stage bit, likely planned for after the first guest’s interview.”

Kimmel talked again about Trump’s cancellation on Kimmel’s Tuesday night show, saying: “Last night, his people called and canceled on us. They were a little bit cryptic as to why he canceled. They said he has a major political commitment — but he did want me to relay the message to you that if he was here, he would have been great.”

Kimmel also said on the show: “I’m dying to find out what this major political commitment was. Usually, it means he had to go on CNN to call someone an idiot, or something. Why did he cancel? We told him there were cameras here, right? Are Tuesday nights the night he volunteers down at the orphanage?”

Trump campaign spokeswoman Hope Hicks later told Variety in an email: “Unfortunately Mr. Trump now has a political obligation that will prevent him from joining as planned, but we have rescheduled to join in-studio in LA over the next few weeks.”
