Tom Bergeron Takes a Leave From Hosting ‘Dancing With the Stars’ — and a Favorite ‘DWTS’ Celeb Contestant Will Fill In

Host Tom Bergeron, a fixture on the ABC competition show “Dancing with the Stars,” will hand off hosting duties on tonight’s show to Alfonso Ribeiro, People magazine reports.

Bergeron is taking a break to be with his father, who is ailing, the report notes.

Bergeron sent out the news Sunday in a tweet, writing: “I’ll miss 2morrow’s #dwts to be at my Dad’s bedside. He’s given me a lifetime of support. Time to return the favor.”

Ribeiro, who broke out on “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” is the season 19 champion on “DWTS,” and appeared last week as a guest judge on the program. He currently hosts “America’s Funniest Home Videos.”

Below is a much-loved clip of Ribeiro competing on “Dancing with the Stars” — including his revival of the dance step “The Carlton” from “Fresh Prince.”

This is the best position for you right now. You are doing a great job. Make it fun.

  2. I think most of the positive stuff I’d been reaindg was coming out of Aus (As in Aussie show takes the world by storm’ kind of spin). The audiences haven’t been great and the show apparently really not that good.
