“Star Wars” fever flared up Monday as the producers unveiled a full-length trailer for the new movie “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” during halftime of ESPN’s “Monday Night Football” telecast and “Star Wars” fans crashed online ticket sites in the scramble to buy tickets. The movie opens Dec. 18.

USA Today says ticket buyers using online ticket sites such as Fandango and Movietickets.com reported site crashes during the rush to secure seats early in the film’s theatrical release. The sites reportedly jumped the guy by putting tickets on sale a couple of hours before the halftime rollout of the trailer. The movie is the seventh installment in the “Star Wars” franchise, and the first to be released since 2005.
