The announcement that a certain character won’t appear in the new “Star Wars” movie drew cheers and applause at a news conference Sunday. Reuters reports that the audience responded positively when producer Kathleen Kennedy revealed that Jar Jar Binks is not in the movie.

Many of the details about “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” have been kept under wraps in advance of its Dec. 18 release date. But Kennedy confirmed that Binks, who was reportedly named the most annoying film character of all time in an online survey of movie fans in 2006, will not be a part of the film.

“Jar Jar is definitely not in the movie,” Kennedy said, producing a cheer from the audience. Binks was the focus of widespread scorn among fans after he appeared in the 1999 prequel “The Phantom Menace.”

Kennedy also said the movie will not feature any Ewoks.

  1. Time Magazine reported that Lucas claims Jar Jar Binks is his FAVORITE Star Wars character of all. Either he was being wildly sarcastic (apparently he wasn’t), or now we know why the most recent trilogy (featuring young Anakin, Jar Jar and a host of other forgettable characters) was so terrible.

The only reason I have any interest in seeing the new Star Wars movie is because Lucas neither wrote nor directed. Which is incredibly sad when you think about it.
