Brian Williams Returns to the Air at NBC (For Today, Anyway)

Dec 15, 2015  •  Post A Comment

Thanks to a set of unusual circumstances, Brian Williams got back to work on NBC today as a terror threat against the L.A. Unified School District forced NBC News into a scramble to cover the story.

The AP reports that the situation was complicated by the fact that Lester Holt — who replaced Williams as anchor of “NBC Nightly News” — was out sick.

Williams anchored an NBC News special report on the school closure, his first assignment on the broadcast network since he lost the evening anchor job and was shipped to cable channel MSNBC, the report notes.

“NBC News said Williams reported on the L.A. schools story one day after returning from back surgery to repair a herniated disc,” the AP reports. “He anchored from New York, joined by Pete Williams in Washington and Joe Fryer in Los Angeles.”

The report notes that the new role NBC News created for Williams following his suspension included the stipulation that he would handle special reports for the broadcast network if Holt wasn’t available.

  1. He’s a liar. I change the channel when he’s on.
