The final season of the Fox singing competition “American Idol” is being cut short. The show’s 15th season will end in April, four weeks ahead of its usual May sweeps finale, Billboard reports.
The report quotes Trish Kinane, president of entertainment programming for FremantleMedia North America, saying: “The storytelling works better in [fewer] weeks.” Kinane stops short, however, of confirming the shorter shedule.
Commenting on the show’s heyday, Kinane adds: “Idol was so successful [that the season] got too extended too much. There are only so many hours that viewers will devote to watching these shows, so if it is shorter this year, it will be a good thing.”
The report cites an inside source saying the decision was the network’s.
