The search for a country singer who went missing on a duck hunting trip continues in northern Oklahoma, and in a sign that has brought hope to his family, bandmates and friends, his dog was found alive.
People magazine quotes Toby Freeman, a bandmate of missing singer Craig Strickland in the country-rock group Backroad Anthem, saying: “Craig’s dog being found alive is a very good sign.” Freeman adds: “Sam’s an older lab and for him to make it in such harsh conditions — it’s just so amazing and we’re clinging on to that.”
The body of Chase Morland, a friend of Strickland who accompanied him on the trip, was found earlier this week. The hunters’ boat apparently capsized in severe weather. But Strickland’s black lab Sam turned up safe and sound, walking on the bank of a river, according to People.
A photo of Strickland with Sam (see below) appeared recently on Strickland’s Twitter account along with a message from Strickland reading: “Everyone meet Sam.. Thankful for this best friend I’ve had for 8 years.. He’s an old man now, still brings back ducks.”
