MTV Names the Post-Millennial Generation

Dec 4, 2015  •  Post A Comment

The generation of Americans born after 2000, an increasingly important target demo for television outlets, now has a name, courtesy of MTV. The Week reports that the cable channel settled on identifying the group as “the Founders.”

“The network has been studying kids born after December 2000 for several years, and in a survey of 1,000 youths in March, they decided to try to find a better fitting name than some of those that have already been proposed: Gen Z, iGen, Posts, Homeland Generation, ReGen, or Plurals,” the report notes. “MTV arrived at some finalists of their own, including the Navigators, the Regenerators, and the Builders, but ultimately settled on the Founders as their preferred label.”

Jane Gould, MTV senior vice president of consumer insights and research, said: “[The Founders are] slightly more risk-averse. They’ve grown up without a safety net.”

Adds generational theorist Neil Howe: “You have a whole generation that is going to represent the extreme endpoint of where Millennials were going in many respects: risk-averse, team-oriented, well-behaved.”

The report adds: “Research identifies the Founders group as being more pragmatic and independent than their Millennial counterparts, having grown up with realist Gen X parents rather than optimistic Baby Boomer mothers and fathers.”

  1. Sorry, that generational name has already been take. Think again, MTV!

  2. And the post-millennial generation has named MTV irrelevant.

  3. The economic rise of other nations has made the new generation globalists as they will have to compete like no other generation before to keep the standard of living that their grandparents attained. Let’s call them the globalist generation.
