ABC Developing Event Series About Real-Life Political Scandal

Jan 25, 2016  •  Post A Comment

One of the biggest political scandals in U.S. history is the focus of an event series that’s in development at ABC. Variety reports that the network is developing a Watergate project, drawing on White House whistleblower John Dean’s 2014 book “The Nixon Defense: What He Knew, and When He Knew It,” along with other sources.

Bob Cooper’s Storyscape Entertainment is producing the series with Dean on board as a consulting producer along with author Jason Grote. The project is in the early stages of development, the report notes.

“The project is in keeping with the current mania in TV for historical dramas revisiting events in the recent past, from FX’s upcoming ‘The People V. O.J. Simpson’ to HBO’s Anita Hill-Clarence Thomas telepic ‘Confirmation,'” Variety notes. “ABC is diving into the Bernie Madoff financial scandal with the miniseries ‘Madoff’ airing Feb. 3-4.”

  1. Surprising…wouldn’t ABC get bigger ratings with the more salacious Bill Clinton sex/rape scandals? It would be much more interesting to speculate who would play Bill Clinton than John Dean.
