AMC Orders Drama Series

AMC continues what’s being called its “more aggressive” development process, giving a straight-to-series order to a new drama project. The Hollywood Reporter’s Live Feed reports that the cable channel picked up the oil drama “The Son.”

“‘The Son’ is based on the book by Philipp Meyer and hails from Sonar Entertainment. Written and produced by Philipp Meyer, Lee Shipman and Brian McGreevy and producer Michael Connolly, it is described as a multi-generational drama about America’s birth as a superpower told through the rise and fall of one Texas oil empire,” THR reports.

The report notes: “The series was one of three AMC put in development — including ‘Goliath’ and ‘Ledge 49’ — with an eye on going straight to series after opening up a writers room and exploring additional scripts.”
