Cult TV Series Being Revived

A cult anthology series is coming back, with a big-time director behind the new TV project. Variety reports that M. Night Shyamalan is developing a reboot of “Tales From the Crypt” for TNT.

“A new version of the HBO late-night anthology series will lead a new two-hour block of terror and suspense-themed programming for TNT, which will be curated by the Oscar-nominated writer-director,” Variety reports. “Plots for ‘Tales From the Crypt’ will be based on William Gaines’ original EC Comics along with new stories. It will not be based on the long-running HBO series.”

Talking about the new programming block Thursday at the Television Critics Association press tour in Pasadena, TNT President Kevin Reilly said: “It is an umbrella for what hopefully will be many shows. We’re going to put a variety of different genre shows, some of which may have a weird sense of humor, some of which may be actually downright frightening, some of which may be a unique blend of genres, but all united under the ‘Tales From the Crypt’ brand. Night is definitely going to direct, most likely the first one, and we’ll see how that evolves.”

  1. Wonderful. Now we won’t have to fork over $10+ to see one of his turkeys that ISN’T “Sixth Sense” or “Unbreakable” as we can watch it for free (sorta) at home. They’d better keep the Crypt Keeper, though. Maybe they can satisfy M.Night’s desire to be Rod Serling by making HIM the Keeper. Imagine the immense satisfaction everyone in the audience will feel seeing Shyamalan meet gruesome ends most weeks! “
