Fox has found its Jesus for a high-profile upcoming program. The network announced Thursday that it has cast Jencarlos Canela as Jesus Christ in “The Passion,” the Los Angeles Times reports.

The two-hour event musical is due during the upcoming Easter season, scheduled to air live on the East Coast, delayed on the West Coast, on Palm Sunday, March 20. It will originate from New Orleans, taking place at a number of well-known locations around the city and including a cast of hundreds of people who will carry a 20-foot illuminated cross from near the Superdome to the banks of the Mississippi, the report notes.

“Canela, a singer, songwriter and actor whose work can be seen on NBC’s ‘Telenovela,’ will be joined by ‘American Idol’ alum and multiplatinum artist Chris Daughtry in the role of Judas,” the Times reports. “Previously announced cast members include host and narrator Tyler Perry, Prince Royce as the disciple Peter and Trisha Yearwood as Mary, mother of Jesus.”

Fox is also readying the live musical “Grease: Live,” on tap for Jan. 31 starring Julianne Hough and Aaron Tveit.
