Twitter May Raise Its Character Limit by … 7,043% (!!)

Twitter has a new initiative set to roll out soon that could raise the service’s 140-character limit by a whopping 7,043%. Re/code reports that the new feature, which is said to be targeted for launch around the end of the first quarter, could bring a limit of 10,000 characters.

The report, which cites multiple sources who are familiar with the company’s plans, notes that the figure is not a surprise, as Twitter already has set 10,000 characters as the limit for its Direct Messages product.

The report adds: “There is no official launch date set in stone, these sources say. It’s also possible the character limit could fluctuate before it rolls out the final product, which people inside Twitter refer to as ‘Beyond 140.’”
