A cable drama series has been picked up for another season. TVbytheNumbers reports that the Syfy program “The Magicians” will return for a 13-episode second season in 2017.

“The channel has picked up a second season of the show, which has gotten off to a decent start in the ratings and has picked up a lot of strong reviews as well,” the story reports. “The show is based on a series of novels by Lev Grossman about the students at a college for magic in upstate New York.”

The series, which stars Jason Ralph and Stella Maeve, has shown promise in delayed viewing. The program has been averaging just under 1 million total viewers on Monday night over its first three episodes in same-day viewing, rising to 1.7 million in Live+3. In the 18-49 demo, it pulls a 0.3 rating in same-day, rising to 0.7 in Live+3.

In a statement, Dave Howe, president of Syfy and Chiller, said: “Thanks to an extraordinarily gifted team of executive producers and our partners at Universal Cable Productions, ‘The Magicians’ has become a buzzed-about hit, enchanting fans of the novels as well as attracting new and younger audiences to Syfy.”
