A spinoff is in the works for Spike’s breakout hit “Lip Sync Battle.” The network is joining forces with Nickelodeon to develop “Lip Sync Battle Jr.,” a kids’ version of the show.

Casey Patterson Entertainment and Matador, which are behind the original, are working on the new show. In a joint statement, executive producers Casey Patterson and Jay Peterson  said: “On the long list of wonderful surprises about ‘Lip Sync Battle’ is our family co-viewing. ‘Lip Sync Battle’s’ multigenerational appeal is our favorite part of the show and the whole ‘Lip Sync Battle’ family is very excited about developing a new music-based comedy variety format to showcase how much our ‘Lip Sync Battle’ kids rock! It’s all the fun of ‘Lip Sync Battle,’ only smaller.”

The original series has generated record ratings for Spike along with more than half a billion views online, Spike says in its announcement. The cable net has ordered a “Lip Sync Battle Jr.” special to run later this year on both Spike and Nickelodeon.

Meanwhile, sister Viacom brands are also developing special editions of “Lip Sync Battle” events.

“Lip Sync Battle” is the most-watched original series in Spike’s history and is averaging more than 4 million viewers on Thursdays at 10 p.m. ET/PT.
