The lead anchor for a New Jersey news station has died after a traffic collision. Reuters reports that former Miss New Jersey Cara McCollum died from injuries sustained in the crash a week ago.

McCollum, 24, became Miss New Jersey in 2013 and went on to compete in the Miss America Pageant. She was the lead anchor for southern New Jersey news station SNJ Today.

“McCollum was driving a 2014 Ford Mustang convertible on Feb. 15 when the vehicle spun off a New Jersey highway and hit trees before landing at an embankment, according to NJ.com. She was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident,” Reuters reports.
