Moonves: CBS Is No Longer Talking With Apple

CBS boss Leslie Moonves says talks between the network and Apple are no longer under way. CNN reports that Moonves said of the talks with Apple, “We had conversations awhile back, and we haven’t had recent conversations with them.”

The comment reflects a change of mood for CBS and Moonves, who was enthusiastic about Apple when he said last May, “Apple TV is trying to change the universe a little bit.” Since then, Apple has signaled that it is pulling back on its ambitious TV plans.

However, that doesn’t mean CBS is cutting back its focus on digital. Moonves indicated that new digital companies continue to reach out to content providers such as CBS. “The phone is always ringing,” the CBS head man said.

Moonves added: “Our business is changing rapidly. If you look at where we were five years ago, we didn’t even know half these companies. Now … something like 40% of the revenue that CBS is getting didn’t exist five years ago.”
