Viacom Names New Executive Chairman

Feb 4, 2016  •  Post A Comment

On the heels of the transition this week at CBS Corp., Viacom has named its replacement for Sumner Redstone. Deadline.com reports that the company named Viacom CEO Philippe Dauman to the post of Executive Chairman.

Redstone, 92, was named Chairman Emeritus, the same title he received at CBS Corp. in that company’s transition Wednesday. Leslie Moonves replaced Redstone at CBS, stepping up to the position of Chairman.

Redstone’s daughter, CBS and Viacom Vice Chair Shari Redstone, opposed the appointment of Dauman to the top post, as we reported previously.

The Deadline report notes: “[Sumner] Redstone endorsed the decision; his daughter, Shari, was the only member of the board to vote ‘no.’ The board offered her the job of Non-Executive Chair, which she declined. She’ll remain Non-Executive Vice Chair.”
