In a move that would represent a significant shift from the standard TV model — in which advertising forms a cornerstone of the business — CBS boss Leslie Moonves revealed that the company may release a version of its All Access streaming service that is free of ads and carries a higher subscription price.
TheWrap reports that Moonves discussed the plan Monday during the Morgan Stanley investors’ conference in San Francisco. Moonves “also predicted that All Access would become a ‘significant driver’ in the company’s business next year,” the report notes.
“To offer All Access ad free, CBS is exploring the possibility of charging $9.99 a month to recoup the amount of advertising revenue per member it would lose by stripping out ads, he said,” according to TheWrap.
