One of the winners of ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars” has been cast in the network’s new “Dirty Dancing” project. The Hollywood Reporter’s Live Feed reports that Nicole Scherzinger will play Penny, the role played by Cynthia Rhodes in the 1987 movie.

The casting marks a return to ABC for Scherzinger, a member of the Pussycat Dolls who won season 10 of “Dancing with the Stars.”

“The three-hour TV movie is being written and exec produced by Jessica Sharzer (‘American Horror Story,’ ‘The L Word’) and, like the 1987 Patrick Swayze/Jennifer Grey starrer, revolves around Baby (Abigail Breslin), an innocent young woman who vacations with her affluent parents at an early-1960s Catskill Mountains resort and gets swept off her feet by Johnny (Colt Prattes), a handsome, working-class dance instructor,” THR reports.

Penny is Johnny’s dance partner and works at the resort as part of the entertainment staff, the report notes.
