The producers of the smash hit Broadway musical “Hamilton” are considering a huge bump in ticket prices, from $549 to $995 for premium-priced tickets, the New York Post reports.
The news comes in a week in which “Hamilton” won a Pulitzer Prize for Drama and advance sales hit $80 million, the report notes — not to mention news breaking that the subject of the musical, Alexander Hamilton, will remain on the $10 bill.
“While skyrocketing prices continue to turn Broadway into a playground for the 1 percent, nobody in the theater business is getting too worked up about it,” the report notes. “The truth is, ticket brokers are getting $3,000 for good seats to ‘Hamilton.’ After the inevitable Tony win, that price could hit $4,500.”
