New Late-Night Entry Gets Series Order

The late-night TV landscape continues to evolve rapidly, with another new show on the way. The latest entry is the unscripted comedy series “Throwing Shade,” which has been picked up by TV Land.

“Throwing Shade” began as a podcast in 2011, moving in 2013 to Funny or Die, where 80 episodes of the program have been produced, The Hollywood Reporter’s Live Feed reports. The show stars and is hosted by Erin Gibson and Bryan Safi, who will both executive produce along with Funny or Die’s Andrew Steele, Anna Wenger and Joe Farrell. Charlie Siskel is on board as showrunner.

THR adds: “The unscripted series will feature social commentary and funny skits, and like the podcast, will cover current issues including pop culture and politics and treat them ‘with much less respect than they deserve.’ The half-hour series will air in the 11 p.m. slot and be filmed in front of a live audience. TV Land is eyeing the 10-episode series for a January debut.”

Here’s a clip from the pilot, posted Thursday by TV Land …

  1. “Unscripted series”? The clip was very scripted, they are reading prompter.

  2. “When you have a live studio audience, but the show relies on canned laugh tracks because of uninspired writing and truly horrible hosts.”

How’s that for throwing shade at “Throwing Shade”.

  3. OMG it’s awful!!! Horrible writing, stale premise, only laughter BADLY canned. You have no idea of comedy!

Do NOT pick up this show!
