Will the Broadway Mega-Hit ‘Hamilton’ Break This Record?

The mega-hit play “Hamilton,” which opened on Broadway back in August, is poised to break the record for annual box office gross, the New York Post reports, citing an analysis in Broadway World.

“With the highest average ticket price at $161.82 and playing to standing-room-only houses, the Lin-Manuel Miranda-led musical could see a $105 million season in its first year on Broadway, according to theater analysts,” the Post reports, noting that the show could eclipse the mark set in 2014 by “The Lion King.” The Disney production was the first Broadway show to top $100 million.

“’Hamilton,’ along with ‘Rent,’ is a groundbreaking show able to tap into younger culture with the use of rap music and dance,” the report notes. “This gives the show a second natural audience once the hype of ‘must-see’ has died down.”
