ABC’s ‘Live’ Has a New (Old) Name, New Logo as the Show Begins Life After Michael Strahan

ABC’s durable morning franchise “Live!” began a new era this morning following a few turbulent weeks that saw Michael Strahan exit the show after almost four years.

The show, which up until Friday was known as “Live! with Kelly and Michael” has a new name, “Live with Kelly,” along with a new logo, which you can see below.

The new name is the same one the show used after Regis Philbin ended his long run on the program in 2012. Strahan came aboard later that year.

The next task for mainstay Kelly Ripa: Finding a new co-host. This morning’s show had ABC late-night regular Jimmy Kimmel — presumably NOT among the contenders for a long-term spot alongside Ripa — filling in as co-host.

Anderson Cooper’s name continues to be among those most often mentioned as a possible replacement for Strahan, but at this point Cooper has shown no signs that he’s about to uproot himself from CNN.

Among the scheduled “Live with Kelly” guest hosts in coming weeks — some of whom may be trying out for a permanent role on the show — are Jussie Smollett, Cedric the Entertainer, Fred Savage, Seal and Andy Cohen. Cooper is not scheduled to co-host.
