CNN Does an About-Face on Donna Brazile as Democrats Deal With Email Fallout

Democratic Party insider Donna Brazile, who has been a frequent commentator on CNN’s political coverage, will remain in CNN’s rotation of talking heads during the Democratic National Convention, Deadline.com reports. The move marks an apparent about-face by the cable channel.

Brazile has been named as the Democratic National Committee’s interim chair in the wake of a controversy surrounding current DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz. Wasserman Schultz has resigned her post, but will remain involved in the convention, which opens today.

The resignation of Wasserman Schultz came after Wikileaks exposed emails that reportedly showed bias against Bernie Sanders among party insiders at the highest levels. Following news that Brazile was poised to step into the position, CNN initially announced that Brazile and the network had agreed to temporarily suspend her contract as a contributor, Deadline notes.

Brazile, who is typically introduced in her CNN appearances as a Hillary Clinton supporter or as DNC vice chair, will reportedly step into the interim chair’s role after the convention.

Deadline cites a source saying Brazile will remain in the regular lineup of commentators over the course of the convention, but won’t be paid for her appearances.
