Singer Bette Midler has apologized after getting blowback over a tweet that is being called “transphobic.”
People magazine reports that Midler took a shot at Caitlyn Jenner in the tweet, which read: “Now that @IAmCait has been cancelled, will she go back to being Bruce? Will Kris take him back? Do I smell a re-wedding?!”
The tweet has since been deleted, but the damage was done. One Twitter user responded by writing: “@BetteMidler @IAmCait Just shows, you can be as gay-friendly all you want, but to some, transphobia comes so easy. How tired and pathetic.”
Another wrote: “I hope @BetteMidler apologizes for her terrible transphobic comments and takes the time to educate herself on trans people’s rights/dignity.”
Midler, 70, responded with a tweet tagging the LGBTQ civil rights advocacy group Human Rights Campaign. She wrote: “DEAR FRIENDS @HRC, WHOM I HAVE ALWAYS SUPPORTED. SORRY LAST TWEET OFFENDED. AN IDLE MUSING. I SEEM TO HAVE MISREAD THE TEMPER OF THE TIMES.”
I love Bette Miller who Caitlyn Bruce Jenner is envious of because Bette is the original diva…
