The president of the Philippines unleashed some tough talk in a speech today, including threatening to “break up with America,” the AP reports. Rodrigo Duterte got personal in remarks about President Obama, telling him, “You can go to hell.”

The tirade was prompted by U.S. criticism of Duterte’s deadly anti-drug campaign, the report notes.

“He also lashed out anew at the European Union, saying the bloc, which has also criticized his brutal crackdown, ‘better choose purgatory, hell is filled up,'” the AP reports, noting: “Since becoming president in June, Duterte has had an uneasy relationship with the U.S. and with Obama and has declared intentions to bolster relations with China and Russia as he revamps Philippine foreign policy that has long leaned on Washington.”

The Philippine leader’s drug crackdown has reportedly left more than 3,000 suspected drug dealers and pushers dead in just three months, raising alarms not only among leaders of the EU and the U.S., but also amon human rights groups and the United Nations.
