The season 42 premiere of “Saturday Night Live” delivered big numbers for NBC, with the network announcing that the show was up 29% over the year-ago premiere and was “SNL’s” highest season premiere in eight years, based on Nielsen “live plus same day” data for the 56 metered markets.

The show was hosted by Margot Robbie and featured The Weeknd as the musical guest, along with a high-profile cold open presidential debate between “Hillary Clinton” (Kate McKinnon) and “Donald Trump” (Alec Baldwin). You can watch the debate clip below.

NBC reported that “SNL” delivered a 5.8 household rating and 15 share in the metered markets, up from a 4.5/11 for the season premiere on Oct. 3, 2015.

“It’s the highest metered-market household rating for a ‘Saturday Night Live’ season premiere since Sept. 13, 2008, when the telecast hosted by Michael Phelps and featuring musical guest Lil Wayne as well as an appearance by Tina Fey as Gov. Sarah Palin, averaged a 7.5 rating in the metered markets,” NBC noted.
