Report: Trump Explodes And Turns Off-the-Record Meeting With TV Networks Into An Anger-Laced Tirade

Nov 21, 2016  •  Post A Comment

There were fireworks at the Trump Tower on Monday, and that was inside the building.

As we previously reported, a number of TV news executives and personalities, from CNN’s Jeff Zucker and Wolf Blitzer to CBS’s Norah O’Donnell and Gayle King, gathered at Trump Tower in Manhattan on Monday to — they thought — talk to president–elect Donald Trump about “the access they would get to the Trump administration,’ the New York Post reports, adding, “but instead [the TV news executives and personalities] got a Trump-style dressing down.”

The story says, “‘It was like a f–ing firing squad,’ one source said of the encounter. ‘Trump started with [CNN chief] Jeff Zucker and said “I hate your network, everyone at CNN is a liar and you should be ashamed,” the source said. ‘The meeting was a total disaster’….”

A second source told the Post, “Trump kept saying, ‘We’re in a room of liars, the deceitful dishonest media who got it all wrong.’ He addressed everyone in the room calling the media dishonest, deceitful liars.”

Notes the Post, “Trump spokeswoman Kellyanne Conway told reporters the gathering went well. ‘Excellent meetings with the top executives of the major networks,’ she said during a gaggle in the lobby of Trump Tower. ‘Pretty unprecedented meeting we put together in two days.’”

  1. “The meeting was off the record, meaning the participants agreed not to talk about the substance of the conversations,” which is why we’re reading it here.

  2. CNN bent over backwards to put Trump-friendly faces on camera, spouting his rhetoric unchallenged. They normalized this dangerous candidate, which is why I stopped watching CNN all together.

  3. Trump is a loose cannon and for at least the next four years we’re going to have to endure a shit-storm from this clown.

  4. The mainstream media made its own bed and now they don’t want to lay in it! When media and the people that work their abandoned journalistic integrity putting their support, comfort and enthusiasm behind everything Democrat and worked even harder to cause injury or increased suffering to the Republicans – instead of giving unbiased reporting – they lost their place as a source for news. Even people that had similar dreams knew the media was not reporting but rather trying to influence. The decline in influence of the mainstream media is widespread because EVERYONE knew it wasn’t news we were getting. It will take a generation for the media to regain the trust of the public. For now it is just partisan entertainment! With President Trump the entertainment value went up so stop complaining about being scolded for doing EXACTLY what you stand accused of!

  5. Hahahaha ! They all got a very deserved dressing down! Come on people, why do you think the New York Times had to offer their “we will NOW try to cover the news in an unbiased way” Mea Culpa?? And Westcoast dude, CNN’s panels were the worst! They had 6-8 anti Trump people ganging up on 1-2 Trump people every night. These are the panels that gave us stellar commentators like Paul Begala, Donna Brazile, Van Jones and the crazed Latina woman (can’t recall her name). It’s going to be an interesting 4-8 years !!

  6. In my opinion, the collective media won the election for Donald Trump by fawning over Hillary Clinton. This made Trump voters and potential Trump voters just dig their heels in even further. It was shameful to watch the news media with their smug commentary and fait accompli rhetoric regarding Clinton’s candidacy while condescendingly speaking about Trump – complete with all knowing winks and in many cases visibly chuckling. The media needs to separate commentary from fact because right now, the lines are unmistakably blurred.

  7. B***S***! The mainstream media did very little fawning over Hillary and instead devoted countless hours during the election to Trump. I doubt it was because they favored Trump, it was more like the way they cover entertainment over substantial news. Trump was a freakshow and they made him their headline numerous times. Those who think the mainstream media favored Clinton over Trump obviously spent little time watching network an cable news.

  8. And the relentless boots of Fascism march even louder: ‘Trump, trump, trump, trump……’

  9. Oh Knottyetti, what prescribed medicine from the state of Colorado have YOU been smoking?? Fascism??? That’s the boots of the “left’ you hear trumping down your hallway. Timmy, I call your B***S*** and raise you 2 snorts and an oink. Sure cable news covered Trump…80% of it was negative!! That’s what turned the tide for the average American voter. They could see and hear it without any pretense of fairness or balance. If it helps, Westcoast, Thane, Timmy and Knottyetti, if you put on your birchenstocks and go for a walk, you might be able to find a “safe space” to get away from all this Fascism and stuff… 🙂

    • Check back with us in a couple years, Sir Wilhelm.

  10. As soon as I read about this meeting, I knew that he’d use it to beat down, insult, and attempt to intimidate the media. That they thought it was just going to be the typical discussion about “access” really tells me how out of touch and clueless the leaders in our news media really are. They really don’t seem to get the fact that Donald Trump is not like any of the previous president-elects despite all the evidence under their noses from the campaign and his actions in the past two weeks.

That doesn’t bode well for the sort of coverage we can expect of his presidency — they need to hold him accountable, but before they can do that, it might help if they can find a clue.
