Trump Holds Off-the-Record Meeting With TV Networks

Top brass from ABC News, CBS News, NBC News, CNN and Fox News met with Donald Trump today to “set the reset button,” as senior Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway put it.

The list of executives and anchors in attendance, according to a Twitter post by Bloomberg political reporter Jennifer Epstein, included ABC’s George Stephanopoulos, Martha Raddatz and David Muir, CBS’s Charlie Rose, John Dickerson, Norah O’Donnell and Gayle King, CNN’s Jeff Zucker, Wolf Blitzer and Erin Burnett, Fox News’ Bill Shine, Jack Abernethy, Jay Wallace and Suzanne Scott, and NBC’s Deborah Turness, Lester Holt, Phil Griffin and Chuck Todd.

Business Insider quotes Conway, speaking with reporters after the off-the-record meeting at Trump Tower, characterizing the event as “excellent meetings with the top executives of the major networks,” and adding: “Pretty unprecedented meeting we put together in two days.”

A key point of contention, according to media reports, is press concerns over lack of access to Trump.

“The real-estate mogul has not held a press conference since winning the election and has yet to accommodate a protective pool, which would allow a member of the media to be with him at all times,” Business Insider reports.

The report adds: “Throughout his campaign, Trump routinely taunted the press, using reporters as a regular punching bag at rallies to fire up his supporters. He has often described the media as ‘dishonest’ and called journalists ‘scum.'”

  1. I had a different understanding on “off the record” – but them I grew up with a different understanding of the media too! This is a perfect example why the media is no longer respected.
