Actress and author Carrie Fisher, fondly remembered as Princess Leia of the “Star Wars” movies, has died. Entertainment Weekly confirms that Fisher died today after suffering a heart attack Friday on a flight from London to Los Angeles. She was 60.

Her death was confirmed by family spokesperson Simon Halls on behalf of Fisher’s daughter Billie Lourd, EW reports.

The statement from Halls reads: “It is with a very deep sadness that Billie Lourd confirms that her beloved mother Carrie Fisher passed away at 8:55 this morning. She was loved by the world and she will be missed profoundly. Our entire family thanks you for your thoughts and prayers.”

Fisher was the daughter of one of Hollywood’s “royal” couples, Debbie Reynolds and Eddie Fisher. She wrote a number of semi-autobiographical novels about Hollywood, including “Postcards From the Edge,” published in 1987. Her other novels included “Surrender the Pink” (1990) and “The Best Awful There Is” (2004).

Earlier this year Fisher published her “Star Wars” memoir “The Princess Diarist,” which revealed, among other things, her affair with Harrison Ford during the filming of “Star Wars.”

She had a number of film and TV roles, including big-screen appearances in “When Harry Met Sally…,” “Hannah and Her Sisters,” “Shampoo” and “The Blues Brothers.” Her TV work included a recent run on the sitcom “Catastrophe.” She played herself on “The Big Bang Theory” in 2014 and had a part in the “Entourage” episode “Tequila and Coke” in 2010.

Fisher was nominated for two Primetime Emmys, for a guest role on “30 Rock” in 2008 and for Outstanding Variety, Music or Comedy Special in 2011 for “Wishful Drinking,” based on her autobiographical book and one-woman stage show of the same title.

Here’s a clip of Fisher talking about Princess Leia — including her infamous gold bikini scene in “Return of the Jedi” — during an interview from 2014, posted by Ireland’s National Public Media Service RTE …
