Character Actor Who Appeared in ‘Game of Thrones,’ ‘Time Bandits’ and ‘Brazil’ Dead at 93

A character actor whose career spanned seven decades and hundreds of TV and film roles has died. The BBC reports that Peter Vaughan, the British actor who recently played Maester Aemon on HBO’s “Game of Thrones,” died this morning.

His agent said he died peacefully with his family around him. Vaughan was 93.

He was best known in his native England for playing Grouty in the U.K. sitcom “Porridge.” He was also known for the comedy series “Citizen Smith” and the drama “Our Friends in the North.”

He played Winston the Ogre in “Time Bandits” in 1981 and Mr. Helpmann in “Brazil” in 1985.
