Just days after Bill Maher, host of HBO’s “Real Time with Bill Maher,” took credit for bringing down conservative firebrand Milo Yiannopoulos, Maher found himself taking heat over a video that surfaced from 1998.
Yiannopoulos stepped down as editor of Breitbart News after coming under fire over comments about sexual relationships between adults and underage boys, as we reported previously. His hassles came on the heels of his appearance last week on Maher’s show.
But now Maher faces criticism on the same topic, after a YouTube video surfaced Wednesday from Maher’s old show “Politically Incorrect,” which was airing on ABC at the time.
Deadline.com reports that the video shows Maher “defending Mary Kay Letourneau, the teacher convicted of having sex with a then-12-year-old student. At the time of the taping, the Seattle teacher was 35 and the student 14, and she was in jail and pregnant with their second child.”
Maher is heard on the tape saying that Letourneau “is in jail because she’s in love. That’s how I view it.” The discussion then turns to whether Letourneau raped the boy.
