The NBC News division has reorganized its top leadership team, including replacing the division’s president. The New York Times reports that Noah Oppenheim was named president, with Deborah Turness, the top female executive in television news, moving to president of NBC News International.

Oppenheim, the executive in charge of the flagship morning program “Today,” will continue to supervise that program.

The division also announced a major investment in the European TV network Euronews, with Turness to serve as a liaison between NBC News and Euronews.

NBC News Chairman Andrew Lack announced the moves this afternoon in a memo to staffers.

“NBC’s 25 percent stake in Euronews means that the network can, at long last, tap into an international market,” The Times reports. “This will enable it to compete more aggressively with CNN, which has a robust international presence (Euronews will be renamed Euronews NBC). Founded in 1993, the network has more than 400 journalists and is broadcast in 13 languages.”

Euronews reportedly reaches 277 million households across Europe, Africa and the Middle East. The report cites a source who was briefed on the plan saying NBC paid about $30 million for its stake in the network.

  1. President of NBC News!

This is the equivalent of being declared the tallest dwarf at the annual freak show reunion.
