Brian Williams Attacked Over Comments on Air Strikes

Apr 7, 2017  •  Post A Comment

Brian Williams is taking heat over comments he made during his report Thursday on MSNBC about missile strikes on Syria. Williams invoked the words of the late singer-songwriter Leonard Cohen, describing the images of the attack as “beautiful.”

“We see these beautiful pictures at night from the decks of these two U.S. Navy vessels in the eastern Mediterranean,” Williams said during an interview on his show “The 11th Hour.”

“I am tempted to quote the great Leonard Cohen,” Williams added, quoting a line from Cohen’s song “First We Take Manhattan,” from 1986, saying: “I’m guided by the beauty of our weapons.”

Williams added: “And they are beautiful pictures of fearsome armaments, making what is for them a brief flight over to this airfield.”

Williams then asked his guest: “What did they hit?”

The New York Post reports that Williams’ comments drew criticism on social media, with Twitter users invoking the anchor’s previous scandal over his claim that he was riding on a helicopter when it was attacked during the Gulf War.

One Twitter user wrote: “#Brian #williams actually rode on the cruise missile.”

Another Twitter post read: “MSNBC Brian Williams called the missile launch ‘Beautiful.’ People are dead. This ain’t 4th of July Jackass!!”

  1. Hasn’t anyone told Brian that it is wrong to say anything that could be seen as positive toward any action that Trump takes?

  2. Just as if I were milking a cow for laughs, this is “utterly” ridiculous…. I believe that Mr. Williams was sharing how “bodacious” these rockets are both engineered and “look.” Nothing wrong with that. But you know how “sensitive” certain “types” of viewers can be.

The “artistry” behind these weapons, not what they are used for. Grow-up people….LOL

  3. Jeez, doesn’t anyone understand a “literary metaphor” anymore?

Oh DUH, I forgot. We’re in a post-fact world where intelligence is ridiculed and ignorance is to be admired.
