  1. Such stupidity passing for humor! Chevy Chase, Lily Tomlin, Gilda Radner made people laugh with real talent, spot on timing and a writing crew with amazing creativity. Not to single out this sophomoric skit but the show in general has not had a high point for years – that is until they got to trash Trump and everything connected to him. Go for the ratings! If all the people the voted for the losing candidate keep tuning in SNL will do fine. Losers love having a lot of other losers near by!

  2. One of my kids was asking me about how long SNL’s been on and such and I thought it was appropriate to screen some older episodes to give her a bit of a history lesson. Note it wasn’t anything approaching comprehensive, but I found in watching the older shows from the 70’s and 80’s there’s still a lot that’s the same– every show featured skits that either fell apart or went nowhere, even in the “golden age” of Chase and Curtain and Radner and all. But every show also had at least one or two skits that were perfectly on point, a funhouse mirror for the times they were created.

And to disagree in no uncertain terms with Reality Chick above, SNL hasn’t been this good or this relevant for a long time. I don’t give the writers, producers and performers as much credit as I do the strange times we live in, but these Spicer skits (and pretty much anything they do about politics this season) are hilarious and a much needed relief valve to keep guys like me from freaking out that America’s going down the tubes. SNL is a flawed, often childish national treasure and I’m glad it’s still around.
