An offbeat TV series that built up a loyal cult following in its years on cable is back on TV, as of Friday, April 14. Netflix rolled out a full season of its reboot “Mystery Science Theater 3000 — The Return.”
Fourteen episodes of the new series are now streaming. The show comes from original “MST3K” creator Joel Hodgson, but features new cast members Jonah Ray and Felicia Day.
Episode 1 examines the movie “Reptilicus.” Other titles released today include “The Beast of Hollow Mountain,” “The Land That Time Forgot” and “At the Earth’s Core.”
The reboot came about in part because of a massive Kickstarter campaign, which set a record as the largest crowdfunding campaign ever for a film or TV project.
The original “MST3K” goes all the way back to 1988 and aired for 11 seasons before shutting down in 1999. The Peabody Award-winning show ran first on Comedy Central and later on what was then the Sci-Fi Channel.
