An actor who stepped into the political spotlight during the 2016 presidential election filed papers this week to run for Congress in 2018.

The Washington Post reports that Antonio Sabato Jr., who came out strongly in favor of Trump during the campaign, will run as a Republican in California’s 26th Congressional District, taking on incumbent Democratic Congresswoman Julia Brownley.

Sabato is well-known as a model and soap opera star, appearing on shows including “General Hospital” and “The Bold and the Beautiful,” as well as “Melrose Place.” He first became known as a Calvin Klein model.

In recent years he has been a regular on reality television, including having his own show, “My Antonio,” on VH1. He has also appeared on the VH1 reality show “But Can They Sing?,” the ABC competition “Dancing with the Stars” and ABC’s “Celebrity Wife Swap.”
